Female rappers in Nigeria are not as visible as their male counterparts. Tipsy Enupo said in spite of this, it would be an “insult” to imply there are no female rappers in the country.
“I don’t know who put that online to say there are no female rappers in Nigeria. I think that’s absolutely insulting for people who put real efforts into it.” Tipsy said.
In a recent interview, the rapper said female rappers can match the techniques of their male counterparts who enjoy more attention from the audience than the female.
The rapper said the belief that male rappers deliver rap messages than their female counterparts is erroneous.
“I think in Nigeria there is a misconception that rappers have to be male. Or that male rappers deliver rap messages better which I don’t think is necessarily true.”
Tipsy stated that while there are many talented male rappers in the country, there are equally many talented female rappers.
“There are a million and one male rappers in Nigeria, the ones you know, the ones you don’t: Everybody is talented in their own different way. But I also know female rappers that are as good as the male. I’d mention someone, Mhizkizz — she’s absolutely amazing!”
