Music veteran, Sound Sultan, has disclosed that the increase in the popularity of the so-called pon pon sound is due to its steady demand by the Nigerian music audience.

He disclosed this in an interview with Hip TV earlier.

Sound Sultan, who just premiered his single ‘Jenifa’, believed that if there were no demand for that type of music artists would not be making it.

He said that the music style was not about the artist alone but also about the type of music listeners consider to be trendy.

He argued that pop pon music did not always mean that it contained meaningless lyrics.

The ace musician said regardless of whatever was trending he would always ensure that his own songs were full of meaning.

He opined that his career had grown to the stage where he could fit in to whatever sound was trending at any point in time.

“I kind of listen and view the industry objectively. As far as I’m concerned, I be old school artiste wey get new school flavour.”

“Anything they are doing right now, I can do it but I will put my foundation in it so you’ll know that I will not say something that doesn’t make sense just to trend.”

“Pon Pon” music is a variant of Ghanaian highlife music popularised by Starboy Records singer, Mr. Eazi.

Other Nigerian musicians such as: Runtown, Davido, and many others have released hit singles that are heavily influenced by Pon Pon music.

Sound Sultan’s latest single, Jenifa, also contains elements of the pon pon sound.
