The Hip Hop World Awards a.k.a Headies is making major changes this year. Some of that include the addition of four new award categories. They are: Headies Viewer’s Choice, Industry Brand Supporter, Best Performer, and Best Song Writer of the year.

According to the organizing committee, the Viewers’ choice prize will give full power to fans through a voting system that lets them decide absolutely, the Brand Supporter Award will recognize brands who are supporting the industry at a time when opportunities are scarce, the Best Performer will reward the Artists whose stagecraft, showmanship and performance routines are exceptionally conceptualized and executed, while the Best Song Writer finally brings to the forefront the talents who compose the lyrics and melodies for the songs we celebrate.

This brings the total number of categories to 24 from the initial 20.

Another major change made is the shifting of the award ceremony to March 2018. For years, the show has been holding in December. By implication, the year-in-review has also been changed in order to give room for more submission of music. The new year in review for 2018 will now be between July 2016 to December 2017. Subsequently, the year in review will be January to December of each year.

The new date for the ceremony is now 24th March 2018.

These changes are no doubt evidence that the Headies team listen to their audience.
