It’s no news that the organizers of The Headies Awards have withdrawn Tekno‘s name from the nominations for the ‘Next Rated’ category. The reason given by the jury for their decision is that the ‘Pana’ crooner refused to participate in all of the required activities by organizers leading up to the event.
The activities include promotional activities like photoshoots, interviews and more. The Headies team reached out to Tekno’s camp several times with no response. All other nominees however made themselves available hence the withdrawal of his name.

Others nominated in the category include Ycee, Mr Eazi, Aramide and Humblesmith.
One can’t help but speculate if the real reason Tekno shied away from activities relating to that category is because he feels he has outgrown the category. In an Instagram post after the nominations he wrote ‘Next rated after how many years, let’s be serious please’
Not exactly a newbie in the industry, he might feel being nominated in such a category was doing him a great disservice coupled with the fact that he had some of the biggest songs out of the industry this year.
The awards show will be holding tonight in Lagos and hosted by Falz and Adesua Etomi. Hopefully, it’ll be drama free unlike last year’s.
