Veteran South South rapper, Cyrus Tha Virus is set to drop his new album, Believer in a few months time. After that, the ace rapper would retire from making music.

Cyrus tha Virus, who has over four projects to his name including: Rebellion & The Infiltration, told Filterfree today that the new album would showcase his growth as an artist.

The veteran rapper noted that for the most part of his career he was trying to curry acceptance from Lagos music audience.

Cyrus tha Virus said he almost lost his main fanbase, who are mostly based in the South South of Nigeria, in the process.

“I tried to convince Lagos to accept me and almost lost my true fans,” tha Virus said.

“Now, I know my fans and they come first. The impact is for them: that I never forgot them. The impact is for me.”

Cyrus tha Virus said he would promote Believer “to the fullest”.

However, the South South rap/hip-hop custodian would retire from rapping. He said he would take a more behind-the-scene role.

“A year from now, when I’m done promoting the album [Believer] to the best of the fullest capabilities, I will retire to more behind the scene activities: To help the South and the industry from there.”

Cyrus, who is known for his passion for the growth of music in the South South, is not happy that South South musicians are not getting recognition for their skill.

He described the prospects of music in the South as “grim”, adding that artists are recognised based on their affinity and geographical location.

“Who says we have to be in Lagos to win awards?” Cyrus tha Virus said.

“Prospects for south music is grim. We must pull resources and projects ours. Our oil rich boys need to invest and push us full-force, until Lagos bends and accepts us.”
