The payola trend has been a regular trend in the Nigerian music industry for ages. It has even gotten to a point where it is getting legitimised. OAP IK Osakioduwa is one of the few people taking a stand against the trend.
The radio presenter in a video published on his Twitter is now calling on other people to join his campaign against payola.
Osakioduwa is yet to find an appropriate name for the movement, however. He explained in the video that it is just a rallying cry to save the industry from the grasps of saboteurs who insist on being paid before playing artists’ music.
“It could be ‘Say No To Pay For Play’ it could be anything else.” He said in the video.
Recall that last week, Osakioduwa brought back the attention of industry enthusiasts to payola after the release of his video last week. The presenter was more vocal in the video, describing payola as “unfair” to artists.
Hey guys, considering how many artistes have been affected by this, I think it’s time for us to take a collective stand against “Pay For Play”. So I’m inviting everyone to join me and #SayNoToPayForPlay. Make a video of your own, simply say your name and #SayNoToPayForPlay pic.twitter.com/UYH5E63eX3
