Veteran singer, Lagbaja, has described the life span of the Afrobeat genre as “timeless”.
Lagbaja stated that it took Afrobeat a while to catch on with people because of the complexity of its style.
He said artists who did Afrobeat were never subservient to trends, but to the love of the genre.
“For people who love Afrobeat it’s a timeless style. It’s not about following the trend: like reggae has been reggae before Bob Marley and after Bob Marley. Now Afrobeat by Fela is a little bit more complex than that.”
He added that Afrobeat singers were more rounded in music as they could play instruments and orchestrate performance.
He noted that these feature were what stamped the authenticity of the Afrobeat style beyond just what was trending.
Omo Baba Muko Muko also waded into the debate about the compromising quality of newer generations of Nigerian songs.
He maintained that artists who follow trends were only in the industry to make money or rise to fame.
The masked singer is well-known for his mysterious identity as well as his range of impressive discography.
