Teni The Entertainer has emerged the “Best New Artist” at the 2019 Soundcity MVP awards. This year’s MVP is the third edition of the awards ceremony.

The presentation held yesterday at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos. The event was hosted by Veejay Adams, Moet Abebe and Pearl who ran the show from the beginning to the end.

Teni leapfrogged the likes of Sho Madjozi, Kidi, Odunsi, Kwesi Arthur and Mbosso to clinch the awards.

“My fathers remembrance is in 2 days,” Teni wrote in her reaction to winning.

“I just won an award today! It’s already an emotional time of the year for me, but this time I’m emotional that he is not here to witness this! #SoundcityMvp.”

Other artists in the same category include Peruzzi, Kida Kudz, Shane Eagle and King Promise.

A slew of hits including “Fargin”, “Askamaya”, “Wait” and “Case” ensured Teni’s plaque was well-deserved.

Teni would later perform some of her hit songs to the delight of fans after receiving her plaque.

DJ Neptune supported the performing artists with his skills on the disc jockey. However, Patoranking was the only act to perform with a live band.

The likes of Mz Kizz, Slimcase, Idowest, Chinko Ekun, Naira Marley, Kida Kudz and Victor AD opened the event after which award presentations began.

After the presentation, top artists from all over the continent started their own sets. The likes of Busiswa, Niniola, AKA, Jidenna, Phyno and Illbliss all performed as well.

4 MVPs For Burna Boy

Meanwhile, Burna Boy emerged as the most victorious artists at the 2019 MVPs. The “Ye” singer took home 4 plaques.

The singer won “Song of the Year”, “Best Male MVP of the Year”, “Listeners Choice” and the highly-coveted “African Artist of the Year”.

However, Burna Boy was not available to pick up the awards. He was represented by his mother who gave the acceptance speech on his behalf.

Burna Boy had been under fire since last Thursday following his complaints on how his name was placed on the Coachella Valley music and art festival flier.
