Singer Burna Boy is not a fan of artists signing international deals. His reasons for being against signing international deals are best known to him, however.

The artist wrote on his Instagram Story today that he felt “sorry” for artists with those kind of deals.

Burna Boy did not say why. But he cited some hearsay as evidence for why he would never sign one of such.

“I feel sorry for all these Nigerian artists jumping into these ‘international deals’,” Burna Boy wrote in the Story.

Apparently, international deals with some of the major labels outside the country are not favourable to artists. And Burna Boy, who is playing in the major field, is aware of this.

The “Ye” singer claimed in the post that the artists did not know what they are getting themselves into.

“You guys don’t know what you’re doing,” the artist continued.

“I will forever be grateful to my manager and mother for making sure I’ll never be an ‘international victim’. I feel very bad for every single one of you. I’m hearing really crazy shit out here. I’m so sad for you all.”

No one is sure why Burna wrote about the issue. Although, there are recent examples of how not to sign international deals with major labels.

In the past few years, the poster boy of the Nigerian pop music scene, Davido had opted out of an international deal which cripple his creative license.

Another poster boy, Wizkid was, at some point, inhibited by his multi-album deal with RCA/Sony, a deal that made him unable to release and market music in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy is making international moves. His latest collaboration with US production duo, DJDS even put his foot on the international scene more.

We are keen to find out how the artist will navigate the waters when it’s his turn.
