The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), says that it has put in place a welfare structure to cater for its registered members.
President of the association, Pretty Okafor revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos. He stated that the structure included the newly introduced biometric ID used for the collation of royalty from copyright.
Okafor added that the innovation was the first of its kind, adding that it would yield great benefits to its members.
“We have been able to put up a welfare structure where the registered members of the union, are going to be getting welfare from medicals to insurance to pension plan.
“That hasn’t happened before but the crescendo is they are going to be getting royalties for their work, anywhere their work are been used or played or downloaded around the globe.
“It will be monitored right now, collated and the royalties will be paid to the artiste direct but everybody needs to come into the structure of the biometric I.D card.
“So, it is a beautiful one for the industry, finally musicians are not going to be dying poor anymore.’’
Okafor of the defunct old Hip Hop group, Junior and Pretty promised that his administration would support the protection of intellectual property for the prosperity of the musicians, involved in putting such great works together.
