Ice Prince has received a largely tepid response to “Chike” from the critics but his new single has been embraced immediately by the radio. The Korebe Bello-assisted song makes a splash on the charts at #18, if the Super Cool Cat can keep this up, he might have another hit song on his hands. As far as hit songs go, Falz and Simi’s record “Soldier” is definitely one of the biggest of the last few months. The song was given a boost by the release of the hilarious second part of its video last week as part of MTV’s Bigger Friday Show.

Simi announced that she and Falz have an EP on the way titled Chemistry, if it sounds anything like their previous collaborations, we are excited to hear it. As a solo performer, Simi’s “Love Don’t Care” is a top 10 record now after 15 weeks on the charts, it landed at #8. There’s another duo looking to get some real estate on the radio, Skuki’s “Lori Standing” has finally made its way to the charts and it starts off slow at #73 one place above another debutante, E.M.E’s R&B starlet Shaydee with his “Smile” record. Also following each other is Adekunle Gold’s pair of hit singles “Pick up” and “Ready”, the singer announced that his debut album Gold would be dropping in July. Wonder what he’ll call his record label when he leaves YBNL in a few months, the Golden Boys?

Wale has a new song “My PYT” and according to the rapper, he channeled Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson in making the record, however it hasn’t impacted the radio in Nigeria just yet. Maybe it would, after his recent comments. The rapper made the news last week after he shared his thoughts on Drake’s “Controlla” record being heavily influenced by Wizkid.

Hey, we wonder whether Drake would have an issue crediting Wizkid as a writer on the song. Let’s not forget Drake placed Wizzy as a featured guest on an official single even though he clearly didn’t have to. A song can have more than one influence but we feel the influence that dance hall and Popcaan/Beenie Man specifically have on “Controlla” is much more apparent than Wizkid and Nigerian music.

Anyway, “Controlla” has slipped off the charts while “One Dance” remains handily positioned at number 14. The hit song is just one of five records that Wizkid features in on the charts.
