Singer, Blackface has claimed Wizkid stole the song “Whine It” from him. The former Plantashun Boiz singer is often in the news for claiming ownership of popular songs.

According to a recent interview with Saturday Beats by Punch, Blackface first sang the song before Wizkid allegedly stole it.

The singer explained that younger artists do not often seek permission before using the works of older acts.

“Wizkid took my song, ‘Whine it,’ sang it with Banky W and put it on his album, Starboy.” Blackface said in the interview.

Contrary to Blackface’s claim, Wizkid does not have any album titled, Starboy, but Superstar. The possible song Blackface was talking about could be “Slow Whine” which featured Banky W on the Superstar album.

Blackface said the song was off his third studio album, Dancehall Biznessreleased in 2010.

“That same song is on my album, Dancehall Bizness. When I raised the alarm, the whole media kicked against me and they stopped playing my music.”

Filterfree listened to the said album to verify if the “same” song was on Dancehall Bizness.

We find that there was indeed a song titled “Like The Way”. There is also a faint similarity in the hook, which hints at the possibility of Wizkid having sampled the song. However, the differences between Wizkid’s “Slow Whine” and Blackface’s “Like The Way” are much more pronounced, both in rhythm and progression.

Therefore, it couldn’t have been “took” as Blackface had claimed, instead it could have been a sample not properly done.
