The video to “APESH*T” was shot at the world’s biggest museum, Louvre, Paris. The video features the portrait of Marie-Guillemine Benoist (officially Portrait D’une Négresse (1800)) the Mona Lisa by Leonardo DaVinci and other influential paintings and sculpture by Michelangelo and other artists.
Jenn Nkiru is an advocate of blackness in film. It is not strange that in “APESH*T” blackness was highly celebrated and visible.
“I’m very interested in the concept of black universality — a centering of blackness from which others can also empathize and assign an aspect of themselves,” Jenn Nkiru once said in an interview with British Council.
Jenn Nkiru’s most outstanding work prior to the release of “APESH*T” was “Rebirth is Necessary”.
