Blackface has filed a copyright suit against Banky W, Wizkid and Empire Mates Entertainment. Blackface is also claiming ₦40million damages for the violation.
The copyright suit is over Wizkid’s “Slow Whine” which Blackface claim was a reproduction of his song, “Like The Way”.
The suit number 1370 was filed at a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The suit also claim that the vocal rhythm, melodic progression and lyrical content of “Slow Whine” were indirect reproduction of “Like the Way”.
Blackface in the suit insisted the reproduction was done in a completely recognisable way.
Blackface wants an injunction barring the distribution of Wizkid’s 2011 album, Superstar except with permission from Blackface.
