Popular South African rapper Nasty C took to social media to give an update on his prospective contract with Roc Nation. This, after reports surfaced in South African media that the 19 year old had already signed a recording deal with Jay Z’ label, which he dismissed as being premature.

According to Nasty C –

The Roc Nation meeting is still in the plans. I haven’t met anyone from the label, I haven’t signed any deal.

The speculation was started by Nasty C himself, speaking to South African newspaper Sowetan Live earlier this month, the rapper disclosed that he’s received a phone call from Roc Nation.

I got a call from Roc Nation Africa who asked if I was signed to anyone. I told them I wasn’t and they said that they would be in touch. A few minutes later I got a call from Roc Nation in New York.

It sounded like they were in a boardroom. They told me that they wanted to meet with me when they come to South Africa‚ which should be in the course of the month.

Roc Nation offers artists different kind of deals – recording, management and publishing. Even though he’s not been offered one yet, the rapper already feels like he knows the kind of deal he’ll be willing to sign with the American company.

I don’t want an average Roc Nation contract. I don’t want a set standard record deal. I want something different. I’ve seen the language they use in contracts and I’ve seen enough people get blindsided, so I’m cautious about contracts. Maybe I’ve just got my guard up.

Roc Nation is home to global superstars such as Fabolous, Rihanna, Big Sean, J ColeDJ Khaled and Shakira. Rapper Wale was once signed to Roc Nation management but there is no African artist currently on the company’s books.
