Naira Marley is on the verge of being cancelled by Nigerian music audience. Why, because he wrote one day that internet fraud is not a crime. This did not go down well with many people who are now calling for his head.
The controversy on whether he was glorifying internet fraud or not is still rife on social media platforms. Many commentators have even suggested this Marley could be a Yahoo boy, as internet fraudsters are called in the country.
But the singer is ready to turn the discussion on its head.
Naira Marley posted a video on his YouTube yesterday. He has gone ahead to record a song with Zlatan Ibile. They call the song “Am I a Yahoo Boy?”
The song is supposedly a response to the interpretations his comment about the activities of internet fraudsters is generating.
“Am I a Yahoo Boy” is produced by Rexxie, who is known for being the brain behind the Zanku hits.
Naira Marley and Zlatan took the right direction to addressing internet commentators by using their music instead.
The song is not officially out, but a vital video which features the two artists while recording the song is available. All things being equal, the song is already sounding like a banger.
No matter when the Naira Marley and Zlatan decide to release the song, it will likely get attention: Nigerians will always turn their heads when the yahoo subject is mentioned.
“Am I a Yahoo Boy?” is a decent example of how to take advantage of a PR fail.
