Pop pon has taken over our radios – the popular sound with half of its roots in Ghana, that combines a mid-tempo sway and a sparse percussive production punctuated by a pair of soft-synths, is the unofficial national anthem of 2017. Your favorite artist has gotten on board, everyone from legends like 2Baba and Sound Sultan, to newbies like Mayorkun have jumped on the wave but someone who seems unimpressed, so far, is Kiss Daniel.

Kiss’ debut New Era was one of the top-selling albums of 2016 and one of the things that made the project so special is how versatile it was. Kiss combined sounds from everywhere, from dancehall to R&B to ska. The G-Worldwide top shot continues to blur genre lines brilliantly on his new tune ”Yeba” – the song gives off major highlife vibes.

“Yeba”takes us back to the 90’s music scene with the use of percussion, horns and other local musical instruments.

I’m in love o, I said I’m in love o

Baby let me cover you

When you stand, I’m under you….

Over the past few months, Kiss Daniel has been showing a different, more playful sid. His funny skits have gone viral several times over. The singer cleverly laces “Yeba” with some of that humor that he’s becoming known for.

“Yeba” is a follow-up to the singer’s slower, more sensual single “Sofa”, his first after the New Era album. “Sofa” peaked at #16 on the PlayData charts, let’s see if “Yeba” does better, even as Kiss Daniel continues to experiment with sounds that his contemporaries seem to scared to try out.  Enjoy below and be sure to share.
