“Chemistry” – Is It What We Think It Is That Falz and Simi Are Telling Us?

I am always excited when new music is cooked and served, and I must admit I did not see the collaborative EP between Falz and Simi Coming.

In my innocent mind, it was a work between Simi and Adekunle Gold I was expecting. But then, I am but a mere mortal.

One has to be living under a rock not to have noticed how close Simi and Falz are. After giving us “Jamb Question” and “Soldier“, and seeing pictures between both artistes, all cosy and stuff, some of us busy bodies sensed those two had something going on.

Yes, Simi has denied it many times, but wise men from the East have also always insisted that there was something rumbling between both very talented young songsters.

Then we woke up this morning to a body of work titled “Chemistry”, with Falz and Simi chest to chest topless on the album art. Whoop!Whoop!

One wonders if there was a transfer of electrons between their chesticles…

Chemistry is 7 track an EP. Looking at the it closely shows a very interesting pattern. It is like a love story, made up of different chapters that treat the issues of falling in love, lovers’ tiff, marriage, etc. It captures a journey. But we shall leave the analysis of this EP to our review machine.

For now, we shall analyse what we reckon is the most interesting message in the EP – a seeming announcement. That is what the flagship track of the EP looks like to us. That is what “Chemistry” the track, seems to be telling us.

So we transcribed the song, and listened to each line to get exactly the subliminal these two were throwing our way. So lets break this thing down into bits.

Each line of this song tells a story, each line speaking to battles of the heart these two have been dealing with. Both artistes took two verses each. We shall lead you through them, line by line.

They sure look like they are ready to jump the rope

Simi led the way with her verse:

She told no lie here. I personally think they look good together, especially after seeing pictures from their photo-shoot. I am positive I am not alone in this. This chemistry between them was very visible to the trained eye (like mine) in “Soldier”. I was willing to bet they were undercover lovers, even with the Adekunkle looming heavy. We do not know if indeed Simi was Folarin’s spec, if he likes his women BBW with a behind so wow it gets everyone in a room uncomfortable (waddap Drake!). We don’t care. They both look good together, stuff of a romance novel.

It is now obvious this young lawyer was suffering in silence. He could see the look in Simi’s eyes all this while. He knew this lady was just holding out and stalling him. He finds Simi very sexy, we do too, which was why he had to hold himself many times from peeling off her dress (pinafore). He probably also suspected whoever her man was had her heart in a choke hold. I don’t blame her, women are more circumspect when it comes to matters of allowing their hearts slip. He was also afraid of the nastiness that could come from it if her man, a man with the legend of being a street fighter decides to make an appearance. She was definitely afraid of the unknown, of how the blogs will view it if she slides into a Big Sean/Jhene Aiko situation with him, she was afraid of Falz – did he just want to toy with her and move the hell on? She was not so sure her feelings for Falz were that strong, if she could trust Falz. That is the reason for this line

At this point, Falz could not take it anymore and he made it perfectly clear to Simi, even though he remained a perfect gentleman. He knew it was in his best interest to give her time to come around. He was willing to take the risk of dating her, even if it turns out badly.

At this point, Simi knew playing hard to get was going to eat her up. She even confessed she had fallen for him long ago, maybe before she even realized it, even at that time she was rebuffing his advances and insisting she just wanted platonic friendship. She still had a little apprehension though. She still wanted to know what she was feeling was not just all up in her head. So she asked him if he was feeling the chemistry she suspects they have.
