This interview that Kiss Daniel granted Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Rubbin’ Minds made me cringe a number of times, let’s count them all.

1. 1:48: Ebuka starts off with the age controversy, which visibly threw Kiss Daniels off but he managed to respond –

About the age stuff, my team we are putting out a press release on that. For now, I would love not to say anything. Because, it’s more than how old I am now.

Ebuka presses on but the singer replies firmly,

Because music is my business, it’s a business. You have to respect that.

More on this later.

2. 5:58: Ebuka was intrigued to find that Kiss Daniel’s father was in support of his plans to become a professional musician, even going as far as giving him money to get started. He then asks the singer whether his father was happy to see him succeed after everything,

Kiss responds –

Ahhh, actually he’s dead.

Ebuka

Oh!

3. 6:38: Ebuka –

What sort of music would you say you do?

 Kiss Daniels –

Afro-centric………… Okay! Uhmm..

4.  10:25 Kiss Daniel gives great advice to upcoming artistes that he himself never got the chance to use. In talking about the importance of reading contracts properly, the singer might have given us clues about what actually happened when he and G-Worldwide reportedly fell out last year. The rumor at the time was that it was over money issues. Ebuka missed a golden opportunity to quiz the singer.

Back to number 1, did Kiss Daniel just tell a pressman inside a press house that he’ll respond to his face-to-face question with a press release?

We saw G-Worldwide step in and control the flow of information when the money issue with Kiss came up but they’ve decided to take a passive approach to this one. I guess there’s more than one way to manage controversy.

This age controversy started late last month after an interview the singer gave to a newspaper was scrutinized. In it, the singer claimed to have graduated from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta three years before, after studying a 5-year course. Being that Kiss previously claimed to be 21 years old, that would mean that he was 13 or so at the time of admission. This immediately raised questions about age falsification, questions that Ebuka had no choice but to ask.

Hopefully the press release will bring some closure to this unfortunate situation. Kiss Daniel has an album out in a few weeks, which means that every day he delays on this press release he told Ebuka about, he gives the media another day to talk about something other than the music.
