Mama Africa, Yemi Alade has denied that she was in support of the Faure Gnassingbe regime in Togo. However, video proof has emerged showing the singer endorsing the dictator.
Last week, Togolese activist, Farida Nabourema, called out Yemi Alade over her role in supporting the oppressive regime which has been in power since 2005.
The Nigerian singer, who spoke through her management, said she was not in support of the regime.
She said that she was in the country to perform at a festival and that she was not paid to endorse any political party in the country.
“It was a normal show you go for in the country. It was a festival they normally do. It wasn’t a political thing at all. Yemi Alade just went there to perform.”
Meanwhile, the activist, Nabourema, has released a video of Yemi Alade singing in endorsement of the Togolese leader, Faure Gnassingbe.
“You are the best, number one, Igwe Oga at the top, Igwe Oga at the top, Faure,” Yemi Alade sang in the video.
“Togo Togo Togo?” The singer called out, “Faure!” Her back up singers responded.
#Yemilade come collect your friend @FEGnassingbe you so praise. We don't want this dictator in #Togo. Make him your #1. #Togodebout #Nigeria pic.twitter.com/p4ojT0aLj6
