Yemi Alade and Wizkid bag BET nominations for Best International Act – Africa 2016.

The Best International Act Africa category of the BET Awards was created in 2011 and nominees for the category are selected by a group of entertainment professionals and fans. The award has caused a lot of controversy in recent years with many African artists and industry observers opining that the continent deserves better placement and exposure during the ceremony.

Wizkid has a checkered history with the BET, he shared the award for Best International Act – Africa with Sarkodie in 2012 but declined an invite to perform at the pre-show and interviews last year.

Wizkid –

So I’m hearing BET is mad cos I didn’t come for the pres shows and interviews!

I don’t post about nominations or talk about awards cos I don’t really care to be honest… I love u BET! If I’m in the city when next u doing the award show, I’ll still come to watch

Yemi Alade was nominated last year as well but lost out to Stonebwoy from Ghana.

Away from Africa, Drake leads the list of nominees this year with nine mentions, while Beyonce and Rihanna are tied for second place with five nominations each.

The 2016 BET Awards will take place June 26 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
