Adekunle Gold is on a promo run for his debut album Gold.

The singer recently sat down with the Juice to discuss his journey from doing song covers  on YouTube, his relationship with the rest of YBNL and his career as a graphic designer. However, before he got into all that good stuff, the ace singer talked about the origin of his name. Adekunle is his first name but he says the “Gold” was ministered to him by a sermon his pastor preached about gold being better than brass.

It’s Sunday, so I want to tell you that I was ministered to in church as well and that’s how I discovered the verse Adekunle’s pastor was referring to but the God I serve monitors the internet, so I won’t. The sermon was most probably based around Isaiah 60:17, which talks about a new Heaven and Earth for all those who trust and obey God.

For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness. (King James Version)

In some versions, the brass is replaced with bronze. The verse contrasts the former land of God’s people with the promised land, Adekunle Gold’s debut album Gold will be released next month on YBNL Records, let’s see if the singer’s album lives up to its name and prophesy.
