“I am a motherf***king starboy” The Weeknd sang in his 2017 album, Starboy.

When the title of the album was first released, debates sprang in the Nigerian internet space. “Who is the real Starboy now?” This question was apt because there was only one star boy before The Weeknd came. And that Starboy was Wizkid. He even has his record label named eponymously after the self-bequeathed title.

Now, the problem has transcended the two singers, somebody else is trying to hijack the name. In fact, the person has already filed to trademark the name in the USA.

According to Complex, The Weeknd’s attorneys have filed documentation against Eymun Talasazan, a realtor who applied for the trademark for his own creative projects.

TMZ also reported that the Canadian singer’s legal team believe Talasazan was up to some “shady copyright business”.

When either party gets an injunction it may affect Nigeria’s international star, Wizkid, who is commonly called “Starboy” in several quarters, and prohibit the singer from benefiting from using the name in the future.
