One would think the “Why are Nigerian rappers singing?” question has been answered long ago. Apparently, a lot of people have not gotten the memo yet.
The artist, Skales now has provided an answer to this question for the umpteenth time since he first pivoted to singing in 2012.
A Twitter user, Jos Hypeman had tweeted asking who else wanted to hear Skales rap again.
Skales, who started out as a rapper, responded that he would have loved to keep rapping, but it would not have any effect on the bottom line.
“I love rap, but it never paid my bills.” Skales wrote in a tweet responding to the poser.
The ex-rapper also hinted that his earlier time as a rapper could have been a time when he was still finding his voice in the music industry.
Skales said: “I’ve found my sound and it’s been amazing through the years.”
The years of Skales rapping may have been long gone, but for most people, he is still remembered as the young lad with prodigious rap talent.
Skales was tipped as the leader of the next generation of rap artists emerging post-2010. His songs, “Heading for the Grammy”, “Must Shine” and “Man Of The Year” cemented his place amongst his contemporaries.
Skales’ new album, Mr Love is due for release before the end of the year. It is expected the album would follow the singing trends set by Skales in his previous albums: Never Say Never Guy, Man Of The Year.
