Ruggedman says the bulk of young artists he has worked with often don’t have much to offer. The rapper cited this as the reason he hasn’t signed any artist to his record label, Rugged Records.

Rugged Baba stated this in an interview with HIPTV recently. He said while most of the young artists he has worked with were talented, they did not offer anything else.

The veteran rapper maintained that talent is not enough to excel in the music industry.

He explained a lot of the young artists he has interacted with mostly wanted their big break immediately. He said these young musicians want to be superstars immediately they are signed.

“I have actually tried to work with talented artists. But a lot of them miss the point; a lot of them want to be popular real quick,” Ruggedy said.

“A lot of them just want to be like Wizkid, they want to be like Davido, 2baba — not checking how long these people I’ve mentioned have been in the industry, how long they’ve been paying dues for.”

Ruggedman said young artists should bring more than talent to the table. He said a lot of young artists have ruined their chances of success because of their “greed”.

“Some of you have ruined your chances by being greedy; by being in a hurry. The backlash of that is affecting other young artists, even if they’re very good, even if they have a lot to offer. This is because of the bad things you have done to labels.”
