The hit songs, the shows and all the acclaims were all the returns on the heavy investment she had made earlier into her music career, Afro-house singer, Niniola, revealed in an interview recently.

The singer told Factory78 that in order to stand a chance in the Nigerian music industry, one needs enough money because the industry is capital intensive.

The “Sicker” crooner revealed that she had sought after renowned music producer, Sarz, to produce one of her earliest tunes immediately after she got her prize money for coming second runner-up in a contest.

“I sought out one of the best producers, Sarz. I told him I want a hit song let’s create magic and he was like ‘Okay, I know what’s perfect for you.'”

She maintained that her talent was not what got her to the level she was now, adding that people often thought talent was enough to lead an artist to stardom.

“You know, when you’re not in the industry, on the outside, you’ll think ‘Oh, talent will just take you places all you have to do is sing.’ Excuse me, where is your money? You need money, you need funds!”

Niniola said it was pertinent for upcoming artists to focus on investing on their careers as the returns would benefit them by the time their careers kicked off.

“As an upcoming artist you have to leave everything aside; forget about the bling bling, or whatever flashy life you want to live. You have to invest in your career. Because at the end of the day it is for you.”

She also encouraged artists to always read agreements before signing to any label so that they did not run into issues later in their careers.
