Newcomers

No single released last week cracked the Play Data top 20 but Ajebutter22’s “Bad Gang” came closest, starting off at number 30. “Bad Gang” is probably the rapper’s must promising effort since his critically-acclaimed debut album Anytime Soon (2014). Niniola’s “Shaba” is showing promise too, debuting at number 40 on the charts, while her second single “Jete” came in at number 61. Davido helps newcomer Teehigh to number 51 with “Zero Smello”, while his newest signing to HKN Music Dremo debuted at number 97 with “Fela”.

High Risers

HumbleSmith’s “Jukwese” is surprisingly the most played song in the country after only two weeks of release. The single racked up 91 spins and is the singers follow up to his smash hit “Osinachi” In climbing to number 1, “Jukwese” pushed Reekado’s “Oluwa Ni” and Drake’s “One Chance” down two places. Cobhams Asuquo’s “Boos it” is gathering steam, jumping from number 17 to number 5. Adekunle Gold is the only artiste with 2 singles in the top 10, “Ready” and “Pick Up” come in at 8 and 9 respectively. Reminisce’s “Asalamalekun” comes right afterwards.

Drifting Away

Korede’s “Mungo Park” has found limited success on the charts so far, peaking at number 15 after 7 weeks. The song is currently occupying the 62nd spot. Olamide’s “Abule Sowo” hasn’t had the best reception either, sliding down to number 64 with a modest 21 spins last week. Iyanya’s new single “Type of Woman” hasn’t fared much better, dropping down to number 78. His label mate Tekno has 2 singles “Where” and “Duro” but neither has charted higher than number 62.
