Since singer, Chidinma Ekile left Capital Hill Records in 2016, she has been arguably quiet. The circumstances surrounding her exit from the record label were unclear: Some suggested that she opted not to renew her contract with the label, others said the deal was called off. Now, co-owner of the label, IllBliss said it was in fact the label’s decision to not renew the singer’s contract.

The former Da Thorobreds rapper told Punch’s Sunday School in a recent interview that Capital Hill decided what happened to its artists.

Illy said the relationship between Chidinma and Capital Hill had “degenerated” and when her deal expired they decided not to renew it.

“Chidinma didn’t just wake up one morning and leave the record label. Didn’t you guys see that the relationship degenerated? Her contract expired with Capital Hill and we did not want to renew it.”

“We are the record company, sowe decide what to do with an artist we create.”

He said the label did not want to keep artists on their platform for more than a year.

“There is always a problem when you start to keep an artist for too long because you want to recoup all the money you invested in him or her and make a huge profit too.”

“We made some good money from these artists, we made enough money to break even and cover all our expenses.”
