Seyi Shay has been in the news of late for her seemingly frosty relationship with Tiwa Savage but this 2013 interview the singer granted Sheifunmi Yusuf could provide the perfect context.
In it, the singer explained –
The producer, my childhood friend, gave me and Tiwa the same track and we both wrote songs on the same track. And I was about to release mine and she heard it and said – that’s my track and I said no, that’s my track. And then that’s where the trouble started.
There were reports in the media at the time that the two were involved in a shouting match. However, that response in particular was to address accusations that the two singers have a similar sound.
Both singers have worked with vocal producer Harmony Samuel (H-Money) of Fly Time Music and Seyi disclosed that she had worked with H-Money on “No Lele” while Tiwa Savage worked with him on “Kele Kele” and “Love Me (x3)”. She also added that when they both realized that H-Money was at fault for giving both of them the same track, they patched things up and decided to move on.
Even adding that –
Tiwa and I are sisters now, like we talk almost everyday on BBM.
Contrast that with how she responded to being asked about their relationship last month.
I don’t really know her, so (smirk)… I don’t know her personally, I don’t really have many friends in the music industry.
360 degrees, our feature image is a picture of the two at Rhythm Unplugged 2012 edition where they went on stage together. I guess time changes yesterday.
