Falz has always contributed, with his music, to socio-political discourses. A lot of people said doing so is not right. But Falz does not agree.

The artist stated in an interview with Hot 93.3FM that those people “are wrong”.

Falz made the comment several weeks after his remake of the song, “This Is Nigeria” generated mixed reactions from people.

The video to the song had generated controversy and became a subject of debate on the Nigerian webspace for weeks.

Many people had called for the withdrawal of the video, while some applauded Falz for bringing those pressing issues to light.

One of the most popular arguments against Falz’s interrogation of socio-political issues in his songs was that he was not in “the place” to make such arguments.

However, Bahdguy noted that his music his heavily influenced by societal occurrences which he couldn’t possibly ignore.

“As an artist or a musician, what happens in your immediate social space would always influence your music,” Falz said.

“And if you’re someone that genuinely cares about what’s going on you will use your music as a tool, because I believe that’s the biggest tool that we have: It’s our voice.”
