DJ Spinall still has the events of January 5, 2019 in mind. The disc jockey had lost the  “African DJ of the year” category at the Soundcity MVP awards to fellow compatriot, DJ Neptune.

The decision was found to be controversial among several industry enthusiasts. Even if DJ Neptune had had an impressive 2018 too.

DJ Spinall recollected his feelings after losing out in an interview with Ehis Ohunyon of Pulse recently.

“It was a lot of emotions in one,” Spinall told Pulse in the interview.

“I think that is just what awards is. Sometimes, I don’t understand why and a lot of my fans don’t understand why as well, I saw a lot of angry tweets.

“We are not the ones that run the awards so they probably have other reasons but they never put out the reasons why. No doubt, I felt cheated, I felt like I deserved the awards, that it didn’t come doesn’t mean that life stops, it just shows that we have to keep going.”

However, missing out in the awards did not hurt him as much as Killertunes’s loss to Phantom, who produced “Ye” for Burna Boy.

“The other part that hurt me about the awards was the fact that Killertunes didn’t win his category. This just makes me feel like, it’s glaring, so obvious,” DJ Spinall stated.

Both Killertunes and Phantom were nominated for the “producer of the year” category. KT, who is signed to Spinall’s The Cap Music lost in that category.
