Olabanji Oladapo, well-known as D’Banj has expressed dissatisfaction in the way record labels in the country are owned and run.
D’Banj was one of the panelists discussing “Changing the Game: Artistes As Leaders” at the 2018 Social Media Week Lagos.
He said record label owners in the country lacked fundamental knowledge of music.
He explained that most record label founders in the country found their label without having a true reason for its establishment.
“Most of the new generation record labels are founded by Yahoo boys. You must understand first, why are you coming into music.”
D’Banj said it is necessary for artistes to strengthen their understanding of the Nigeria music landscape so as to survive the challenges.
