The prolonged internal crisis in the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has earned it a suspension from the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC). The letter suspending the activity of the body was served yesterday.

According to a statement by the factional chairman of COSON, Efe Omoregbe, the body has begun work to rescind the suspension on its operations.

The suspension was effected following the refusal of the General Manager of COSON, Chinedu Chukwuji to comply with a directive by the NCC.

Omoregbe, who has been tussling for the leadership of COSON with Tony Okoroji, blamed the suspension on Okoroji’s intent to disrupt the society’s activities.

“This situation has been brought upon the society by the intransigence of Chief Tony Okoroji acting in concert with some individuals who have benefited from using artists’ royalties to fester their own nests.”

Omoregbe urged members of the society to not panic as the leadership of COSON has gotten in touch with NCC to revert to the old order.

“We advise both members of COSON and our licensees not to panic. The legitimate board will work with the NCC to ensure normalcy is returned in the shortest possible time.”
