Next month will make it a year since DJ Obi embarked on an ambitious project to break the world record for the longest ever DJ set. DJ Obi completed a 240-hour marathon on the decks at a Lagos cafe, smashing the previous record of 200 hours set in Dublin by a Polish DJ called Norbert Selmaj in November 2014.
The record was not immediately ratified by the Guinness World Records but in an exclusive interview with Filter Free right afterwards, DJ Obi assured us that he is confident that it would be eventually.
According to him:
Everything about the world record attempt is very official. Prior to attempting the record, we reached out to the Guinness world record office and took all the proper steps we needed, that is, applying for the attempt and also ensuring that they verify the attempt after it’s done.
However, the DJ and his team have since gone quiet on the status of his attempt, prompting Nigerians to ask questions. Today, Guinness World Records gave an official response, thus bringing an end to speculations.
@4eyedmonk Unfortunately DJ Obi's attempt hasn't yet been confirmed by our records team but we welcome additional evidence and are in contact with him

DJ Obi could yet be handed the record in the future if he provides ‘additional evidence’ but as at today, the record still belongs to Norbert Selmaj.
DJ Obi completed a 240-hour marathon in July last year. He was allowed a five-minute break every hour. He also had to have someone dancing at all times, and could not repeat a song within four hours of playing it.
