Last year, Zlatan was relatively unknown. Until, he released “Zanku (Legwork)” and appeared on Chinko Ekun’s “Able God”, not many have any idea of who he was. The success of those songs appeared spontaneous. But the artist has been on this hustle for a while now.
The good thing about this is, Z. believes so much in his sound. And he tells anyone, whether they want to listen or not, that he is in the music industry to stay.
Zlatan is responding to fears that he may fade out soon. Those fears are valid, considering the fleeting nature of trends in the Nigerian music scene.
“If you don’t know me you won’t know I’ve been doing this for a while now. You can’t just expect anything I’ve been doing for a while now to just pack up like that,” Zlatan Ibile tells Olisa Adibua and Osikhena Dirisu on Morning Rush on The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos recently.
The artist, who is well-known for his ability to drop bars, acknowledges that some artists never quite maintain their shine after their first hits. But the “Zanku” singer has already surpassed that fear.
In fact, he points out that only a few people know him despite having scored a couple of hits. He hints that he has yet to finish with audience acquisition.
“So many people don’t know me; so many people know me from ‘Able God’; some people know me from ‘Zanku (Legwork)’; [some are just knowing me] from this Burna Boy song [ Killin’ Dem]”.
Furthermore, The Hallelujah Boiz entertainment singer says he will acquire newer listeners with his upcoming songs. Zlatan says he has a song with Teni and a couple of other musicians.
This, he believes, will help his audience acquisition drive. He will in turn use consistent releases as a primary strategy to drive longevity.
Zlatan also reveals his plans to drop a full body of work before the year runs out. The artist did not say when the project be ready, however.
