In 2013, when Cyrus tha Virus came sideways at Yung 6ix for prematurely christening himself “King of the South”, Yung 6ix had a ready reply on “N!ggas Fear”. Pherowshuz had taken a line from Nas’ “Hate Me Now”, made it the chorus and gave 6ix the platform to aim shots at Cyrus –
Only Cyrus I know – Miley Cyrus
Which was a poor man’s version of M.I.’s “Only Kelly I know – Kelly Rowland”, but 6ix was young and learning his craft.
Besides, that diss helped to create a buzz that Yung 6ix capitalized off of to release his debut album 6ix O-Clock less than a year later. I need to double check whether he paid respect to the veteran 6ix Foot Plus for using that title first but that aside, now seems like the perfect time for the rapper from Warri to redeem himself for what many feel was a lukewarm diss.
Three years later and it’s obvious that B-Red and Yung 6ix do not like each other for whatever reason. There have been taunts and threats but everything so far has been on Twitter and text. Although after learning recently that B-Red’s cousin, a guy called Davido – you might of heard of him, is set to feature on one of 6ix’s next singles, I have doubts about how genuine those ill feelings are but I’ll play along.
When two MC’s show their dislike for each other to the public, most hip-hop fans expect the two of them to take their frustrations out on wax. Never mind B-Red’s threats to beat up the KKTBM rapper, these things seldom ever get physical. Ruggedman even said that when he ran into Eedris Abdulkareem at Lagos airport, they peaced it out in front of Eedris’ wife and kid. But that was after a memorable battle, that heads still talk about till this day. These days, social media offers an easy outlet for rappers – it’s too easy. We don’t want parrot jokes, we want bars!
B-Red’s new EP All the Way Up is out on the streets, I haven’t heard it yet because it’s nowhere on the internet. I would hope that he left some unkind words for his new foe but somehow, I don’t hold the HKN artiste to the same standard as I hold 6ix. Yung 6ix is a rapper rapper, his latest song “Too Late” is a one take freestyle that is uncharacteristically light in punchlines but heavy in melody and braggadocio. Unfortunately, the life the rapper brags about on records is unattainable for the average Nigerian like myself. Whether his intention is to inspire, make folks like me aspire or just put words together, we like how Yung 6ix says what he says but we just can’t relate to what he’s talking about. (Listen to the record at the top of the post)
Already with the team, champagne on my toothpaste.
He dropped a decent EP at the top of the year Billionaire Ambitions that almost came and went without much notice.

If 6ix wants to create the kind of buzz his talent deserves, he knows what buttons to press to get the public talking about his music – he’s done it before. And it’s not the same buttons on his mobile phone that give him access to social media.
