“We did all three, abi?” This was Burna Boy, the Afrofusion artist’s remark after performing some of his biggest songs ever at the latest Audiomack Trap Symphony performance series.
The singer was backed by a live orchestra at the event which was held at The Bunker Studio in New York. The intimate performance was the last of Burna Boy’s extensive press run following the release of African Giant.
He had, prior to the Trap Symphony Orchestra, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Trevor Noah’s show and a couple of other high-profile interviews.
Many pundits in Nigeria are already touting Burna Boy as the only Nigerian artist that’s looking like he has a foreign record deal.
While Burna Boy may be famous for his music, he’s also known for some of his stylish looks. On the Trap Symphony, the singer did not disappoint, both on the music and fashion front.
The African Giant enters the stage, where an 8-piece orchestral ensemble awaited him, with his usual confident swagger, rocking an all-Denim look and a couple of accessories.
“Casual listeners might not need to understand Burna Boy’s current role as one of African music’s most celebrated stars and global ambassadors to appreciate his music,” a post by Audiomack on their Medium said of the singer’s work.
“His sound, which he’s dubbed Afro-fusion—a rich, vibrant blend of Afrobeats, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, and pop—is an undeniable blend of bright grooves and galvanizing rhythms. To truly understand Burna Boy and the impact he’s had as a trailblazer for African representation in Western pop culture, though, you must appreciate where he came from.”
Burna Boy’s performance on the Trap Symphony Orchestra came months after Chief Keef, Rich the Kid and others appeared on the stage.
