If you let Mr. Eazi tell the story of his meteoric rise, you might think he’s the best thing to happen to Ghana and Nigeria since jollof rice. The singer has made the headlines on a couple of occasions for overstating his importance to our music culture, and it’s no surprise that his penchant for wanting more credit hasn’t gone unnoticed by his peers.

While most of them chose to shy away from responding to the outspoken singer directly, Tekno has finally packaged a response, albeit a belated one. On his newest single “Anyhow”, Tekno offers some sharp words for Mr. Pour Me Water, just falling short of calling him by name:

Say man say we never go Ghana /
Say na him sing with the bangers /
Say na him get the banku /
Way dey make all te girls to dey ginger /
For many years we dey dance azonto /
Back then, that shit was the koko /
Why you come dey form odumodu /
Guy man, just live life simple /

Cos if you do anyhow /
You go see anyhow /

Tekno and Mr. Eazi have worked together before, most noticeably on “Short Skirt” on Mr. Eazi’s last project Accra to Lagos: Life Is Eazi (Vol. 1), so it’ll be interesting to see how those lines affect their relationship going forward.

Both singers have become influential in this era and would have gone head-to-head for the Headies Next Rated category in 2016, if Tekno wasn’t disqualified. They’ve also been instrumental in the propagation of the hybrid highlife sound that dominated much of 2017, some would say they were even equally instrumental. Perhaps that’s the reason why Tekno feels as though Eazi continually bigging up his contribution makes his own contribution look small.

The new record features OG, Flimzy And Selebobo, and much like Tekno’s 1 million other singles, no one truly knows where it’ll end up – on an EP, on an album or just on the internet.
