Poe was conspicuously absent from Clone Wars 3 but fans of the SDC understudy didn’t have to wait long to get their hands on new music from him. The rapper released a new record called “Lifelines” which adopts his trademark line ‘no punchlines, just life lines’. The idea is simple – Poe just talks about his life on these rap songs and if it sounds dope, then it’s probably because his life is dope.

The rapper delivers the new record over the instrumentals for South African rapper Kwesta’s heater “N’gud”, it’s a DJ Maphorisa production.

Poe delivers a single verse where he talks about real life things from going through the motions like Agege traffic, to building a buzz through his consistency and how even some of his own cousins aren’t able to relate to his progress. Part of that progress is Poe now becoming an MC that his peers consider so much of a threat that they have to switch up their verses when they feature him on their records and listen to his.

All these rappers taking shots but they don’t really have the liver

They really can’t deliver even worse they can’t conceive

They appear to give a f*ck but looking celibate to me

“N’gud” was originally a shayo anthem, Kwesta and Cassper Nyovest took turns to talk about all the damage they were going to do in town after getting faded.

Poe approaches his own version with a little more meat than Kwesta did but with total reverence to the original record, shouting out the creators. It’s a solid remake but Poe did make the curious decision to squander his brilliant tagline on a freestyle, more or less. To my mind, the tagline would have been more impactful on a record of his own but who knows, if it really really catches on, that might still happen.
