Wizkid’s Malawian fans will be disappointed to find out that the pop star’s concert in Lilongwe has been cancelled.
Star Boy was initially scheduled to perform at the 20,000 capacity Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on 4th June, but the promoters Black Rhyno Entertainment made the decision to cancel the show. According to a press release –
Because of another international concert involving South Africa’s Mi Casa, which is happening on the same date in the capital city… A new date and further details on the Black Rhyno’s Wizkid Concert will be announced in due course.
Multiple-award wining Soup African group Mi Casa are scheduled to perform on June 4 but that concert is scheduled to hold at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe, a different location from where Wizkid was billed to perform.
Nevertheless, Wizkid continues to sour with “One Dance”. The single has topped the charts in almost 20 countries and was top of the US Billboard Top 100 just last week.
There’s a mild resistance to Nigerian music and musicians among some in Malawi. The resistance bubbled to the surface last month when rapper Fredokiss expressed his displeasure with Wizkid and Davido being played on the radio 80% of the time and preventing local acts from getting airplay.
