Oritse Femi has rebuffed the argument that Nigerian artists rely on the benevolence of politicians to make money.
The singer stated in an interview with HIpTV that they make their own money themselves, arguing that no politician ever commissions them to make the type of music they choose to make.
He said that while the role of the entertainment industry is very important to politics, the latter was also important, adding that politics would not thrive without entertainment.
“Politicians need entertainers. Count entertainers out of Nigerian politics it will affect a lot of things.”
He further added that the entertainment industry, especially the music industry, was like a watchdog for the politicians.
“For example, look at what I just did now (with my song, Unity) did anyone give me money? No, nobody gave me money. I took the money from my own pocket to record this song.”
“Don’t let anyone decieve you. How many politician would willingly give us money? How much will they give you? We make our money ourselves.” He insisted.
