Orezi has been on the scene since 2009 but didn’t breakthrough till 2013 when he dropped his single ‘Rihanna’. In this interview, he bares it all. He talks about how every artiste desires acceptance of their work and how he had to make up his mind that his music won’t be accepted by everyone.
When asked about award nominations, he had this to say:
‘Honestly, my faith for Nigerian awards is a 50/50 thing, some of them are legit. I don’t know who to blame…For NEA this year i didn’t get any nomination and i was like did you listen?….
He alluded to the fact that those in charge were deaf as his last album should be among the best three nominated given his hit songs like ‘Shuperu’ ‘Shoki’ and the collaborations with Wizkid, Timaya, Flavour, M.I, Davido, Ice Prince among others.
Orezi further added that there’s always a message in his songs which he calls the ‘Orezi Factor’. He also mentioned that Nigerian artistes were fond of jacking some of his lyrics such as the phrases ‘aye o pe meji’ ‘mo ri alert’.
Orezi’s music isn’t exactly outstanding which might explain the lack of award nominations.
