Universal Music Group, West Africa Country Manager, Ezegozie Eze, has played down the role of talent in determining the success of a music artist.
Eze explained in an episode of #RealTalk on NdaniTV that talent only play a marginal role in the music industry.
He said the music industry was essentially “music business”, adding that a knowledge of the business side of music would be an added advantage for the artiste’s quest.
He maintained that artists needed to understand the market they were trying to break into and talent could only take them as far.
“Let’s say you want to enter Germany for instance, you need to work in reverse, take a look at where you want to enter and then walk backwards from there; maybe talent can take you so far.”
Universal Music Group also recently opened a country operation in Nigeria in September.
