Tiwa Savage has cleared the air on the controversial stature of the sample of her song, “Before Nko” by Ciara on “Freak Me”.
The singer while reacting to the story on Tim Westwood’s Capital Xtra described the sampling as a “pleasant surprise”.
Tiwa Savage said Ciara’s team had reached out to her camp before proceeding to sample and release the song.
“It’s amazing. It’s an honour. I knew she was going to sample the record,” Tiwa Savage told Tim Westwood.
“Her people had spoken to my people but I didn’t hear the final product until it came out but it was a pleasant surprise. Big shout out to her.”
In the early days of the release of “Freak Me” by Ciara, Tiwa Savage was coy on whether the use of her song was well authorised.
With this interview, it puts the story of possible copyright violation by Ciara to bed.
