Nigerian-British grime artist, Skepta, has been in Nigeria for the past few days. He was a headliner for the BBK Homecoming Concert where he serenaded concert-goers with with energetic performances from his projects, including Konichawa LP.
Skepta did not just come to perform in the aptly named homecoming concert, apparently he was also in town for some other traditional duties too.
Skepta has now been designated as a chief in the Ijebu-Ode town of the country. Ijebu-Ode is one of the biggest towns in Ogun State, Nigeria, only second to the state’s capital, Abeokuta. It’s also the hometown of the artist’s parents.
A video posted on Instagram a few hours ago shows the srime star kneeling before a chief who placed a traditional cap on his head. Skepta has one neck bead around his neck, while a traditional chieftain was being sung in the background.

Skepta was designated as the chief “Amuludun of Odo Aje”. Adenuga acknowledged the title in his Instagram post, adding that he would continue to have the country in his mind.
Born in Tottenham, London in 1982, Skepta was enlisted in Debrett’s 2017 list of the most influential people in the United Kingdom. The grime star has now replicated this influence in Nigeria, a country which he, by virtue of his descents, shares affinity with.
