Ace producer Sarz joined Trybe Records at a time when “cliques” where still the in-thing the Nigerian music industry. But he left after a while, choosing not to renew his contract with the label in November 2013.

Industry enthusiasts never got to know the real reason why Sarz chose not to renew his contract with Trybe.

But in a recent episode of TheSNC podcast, the producer who has worked with several A-list Nigerian musicians spoke about his exit and his time at the eLDee-led label.

He said there were “conflict of interest” in the label at the time and it posed a threat to his music career.

However, Sarz, who was renowned for his works on Dagrin’s first album “CEO”, said he was unsure if the conflict of interest were a thing.

“I think there were in-house conflict of interest and things weren’t going as planned. At that point it was slowing me down [in a way].”

The producer also noted he was already known in the music industry before he decided to join Trybe Records. He further added the reason he joined Trybe was to boost his chances of succeeding in the music industry.

“At [the point of joining Trybe] it felt like only cliques were popping; there was EME, Mo’hits, and there was Choc Boys. It felt like if you weren’t in a clique there’s nothing for you.

“At that point I was like ‘What do I stand to lose by joining Trybe?’. That’s part of the reason I joined Trybe and everything started great until things started to go downhill. So [I decided] to just focus on myself.”
