Runtown has been ordered to appear in court on the 8th of August 2018. The order was issued by an Abuja high court on the 24th of July 2018.
The order was issued following Eric Many’s contempt of court appeal filed earlier this month against its former label signee.
If Runtown appeared in court on the said date, he would have to prove to the court why he should not be jailed for his actions.
Recall that a few weeks ago, Runtown had dismissed the suit, stating in a press release that the injunction Eric Many was pursuing had expired.
A statement released by Eric Many today maintained that Runtown was wrong in his interpretation of the injunction which required that the singer stopped performing publicly until his case with the label is heard at the court.
Eric Many said in the statement that it has obtained another court summon against Runtown to explain his decision to flout court rules.
“We have obtained a ‘form 49’ against him to explain why he should not be sent to prison,” the statement read.
“Especially when he continued to publicise fixtures for shows in Canada, Namibia, Europe etc.and threatened to release more songs.”
Eric Many stated that these actions were against what the court prescribed in its earlier injunctions.
The label said it has served the notice of summon to the singer in a national daily, as directed by the court.
“We will not allow him to continue to mock the court order we have applied. [We have also] obtained a new injunction to stop his actions to protect the contempt case,”
The new injunction would stop Runtown from performing in Canada, Namibia and Europe, the label said, however this depends on whether the singer would respect the court this time.
Eric Many and Runtown have been locked in a legal battle since the beginning of the year. The label said Runtown has reneged on some of the terms in the contract both parties entered in 2016.
