Professor Linkin, the singer of the 2003 hit song, “Jogodo” will not drag Tekno to court for using part of his song to create the new “Jogodo”. Professor Linkin said he was undecided about the issue for now.
Recall that the Danfo Drivers group had once dragged Tekno in interviews over the use of parts of their song, “Kpolongo” to make the newly released “Jogodo”.
However, the “Panam” singer and Danfo Drivers were able to reach a middle point before things degenerated. Among the conditions Danfo Drivers gave as reasons for settlement was that Tekno has to collaborate with them on a remix of “Kpolongo”.
A recent video which was released on the internet last Friday, 29th of June 2018 suggested the Triple MG artist might be meeting the demands of Danfo Drivers. The artists were in the studio together and a song, presumably one they’ve recorded together was playing in the background.
According to a recent interview with Saturday Beats by Punch, Professor Linkin is aggrieved he was not consulted before his own right to the word “Jogodo” was used.
If indeed Linkin owned the right to the word “Jogodo”, then Tekno might yet have another issue to deal with.
“I am the originator of ‘Jogodo’. Before I sang the song, ‘Jogodo’, no one ever used the slang. It was due to the commercial success of my song that the word ‘Jogodo’ became a slang.” Professor Linkin said in the interview.
The 2003 “Jogodo” singer added that he only wanted Tekno to admit he used a part of his (Professor Linkin’s) song without permission in error.
He said he has not yet decided if he would press charges against Tekno, whose “Jogodo” version has enjoyed several chart appearances and wide acceptance by the music audience in Nigeria.
“I would not drag him to court but I would still monitor the situation before I take a final decision. I know dragging him to court is the right thing to do because what he did is illegal but I would wait and watch to see if he would reach out to me.”
Professor Linkin stated that he expected Tekno to pay him for using a part of his song, or even collaborate with him on a new song. This demand is similar with what Danfo Drivers asked for.
“All I need from him is to give me money or we should do a remix of that song together for the world to know that I am the originator of the song,” Professor Linkin said.
“Now, he is making millions with the song but I have not made a dime over my intellectual property because he is acting as if he is the originator of the song. Most of the songs these boys are singing emanated from Ajegunle but they would refine them and make them seem like their own. It is very bad and so painful.”
So far, neither Tekno nor his management and record label, Made Men Music Group has reacted to Professor Linkin’s comments.
