Phyno and/or Olamide must have lots of fans in Burkina Faso and Cape Verde because in those countries, they’re downloading “Fada Fada (Ghetto Gospel)” off iTunes like it was sung in a combination of French and Portuguese.
The latest collaboration between the rappers topped the iTunes charts in Burkina Faso after a week of release and started off at #18 on the Cape Verde iTunes charts.
National iTunes charts aren’t widely respected because they are too fluid and Apple doesn’t share the metrics used to rank the songs with the public. Nonetheless, this is noteworthy as neither country has English, Igbo or Yoruba as its lingua franca and it is indicative of the ever-growing influence of Nigerian music on the African continent.
