Sensational singer, Omawumi, has said that there is greater female engagement in the Nigerian music industry now than before.
The singer was reacting on PlanetRadioTV to claims that the Nigerian music industry is dominated by male musicians.
She said more female artistes in the industry are now working together on projects.
“Waje and Yemi (Alade) just released a song a couple of days ago. Tiwa (Savage) and Waje did a song together which I was in the video.”
She said before her breakthrough in the industry there had been more male musicians than females.
However, she said the situation had gotten better now as there are now more female artistes to work with.
“I don’t think the industry is male dominated any more. When I first came out it was. But not anymore. You have Niniola, Niyola, Yemi Alade, there’s Chidinma. Before [you know it] you have a lot of us out there.”
“Yes, we have a lot of male artistes. But we also have a lot of strong female artistes who are making nice money in this industry.”
